Fire Hydrant One Foot
Ink on paper 19x24
Fire Hydrant One Foot is a study in forced perspective and motion. I chose to recreate a photo of skateboarder Jason Lee performing an ollie one foot over a fire hydrant, originally captured with a fisheye lens. The lens distortion added a dynamic sense of depth, which I aimed to emulate in my piece by curving the background elements, such as the sidewalk, buildings, and power lines, to mirror that warped perspective. To heighten the illusion of motion, I had Jason’s front foot break through the frame’s boundary, pulling the viewer into the action and creating a strong focal piece within the motion of the composition.
