Elephants
Ink on paper 24x19
Elephants is a study in line work, focusing on how form and texture can emerge through movement and repetition of line. For my subject, I chose a baby elephant splashing through puddles amid a herd of older elephants. Rather than relying on defined outlines, I allowed the density and direction of my lines to naturally shape the figures and convey depth. The fine, overlapping strokes not only formed the elephants’ bodies but also mimicked the intricate, wrinkled texture of their skin. The splashing water adds a sense of energy to the composition, while filling the negative space and grounding the scene in a moment of playful youth.
