Time Pass Through

Animatic/Animation: After Effects & Premiere

Time Pass Through is a piece that started as a final project for my Storyboarding class. The COVID pandemic hit during my Freshman year of college, completely interrupting life as I knew it. Without the routine of school and clubs, along with the isolation from friends and family, it was easy to feel like the passage of time had lost all meaning. Before I knew it, I was almost 20 years old and suddenly had to come to terms with no longer being a student and joining the ‘real world,’ whatever that meant in my head. The song Time Pass Through by Kaden MacKay perfectly captured my mindset at the time. This animatic is an expression of trying to navigate my feelings of depression and anxiety while looking for hope towards the future.

In a later college course, I expanded my original animatic into a full animation, using color to convey emotion—cooler tones reflecting my worries and warmer tones symbolizing my search for optimism. The project became a therapeutic outlet, helping me process a complex and uncertain time in my life.

I was honored to have the finished animation showcased at Level Up 2022 and 2023 Future Design Showcases hosted by the School of Design and Creative Technologies.
