True Self
Oil paint on canvas 24x30
True Self serves as a companion piece to Untrue Self, exploring realism in light, color, and emotion. For the subject, I photographed myself holding a lighter in a dark room, aiming to capture the dramatic interaction between illumination and shadow. The upward glow of the flame highlights my facial features from below, creating a moody and introspective atmosphere. I focused heavily on color theory, using a green palette to convey the subtle shifts of light across the skin while maintaining a believable flesh tone. The result is a study in contrast between warmth and coolness and light and darkness.
