Ron’s Big Catch

Graphite on paper 19x24

Ron’s Big Catch is a study in layering two distinct images to form a single, cohesive composition. The subject is my grandfather, Ronald Schaefer, whose lifelong passion was fishing. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of spending time on the water with him. For this piece, I combined an image of my grandpa as a child with one of him later in life, proudly holding a salmon—the way I remember him best. I allowed the salmon to break through the border of the image to help differentiate the two layers while maintaining a unified, seamless composition.
