Media Overconsumption
Graphite and newspaper collage on paper 24x18
Media Overconsumption explores the overwhelming influence of social media and digital content in our daily lives. The piece centers on a young boy, his face illuminated by the cold glow of a phone screen, almost hypnotized by whatever holds his attention. To represent the constant flood of information we encounter online, I layered the finished piece with glue and pressed fragments of newspaper over it, selecting stories and headlines that mirror the noise of modern media. Once dried, I tore the paper away, leaving behind ragged remnants that partially obscure the boy’s face. Among the headlines, you can see trending topics like “We’re back in the office!” “Stop messing with Texans’ reproductive freedom,” and a cartoon thought bubble of a guy thinking “sex". The result is a fragmented image reflecting how our attention is increasingly buried beneath an endless stream of information and distraction, questioning whether we have too much access to information.
